Historic Barrio El Hoyo
The original Sonoran-style adobe market built in the 1920s is an iconic building in Tucson. The new 900 sq ft accessory dwelling unit is built from Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) blocks 12” thick. The positioning of the structure fits into the existing historic streetscape while defining six courtyards for the existing Elysian Grove Market, formerly a market but now a complex of dwellings. Barrio El Hoyo is part of the larger Barrio Historico neighborhood in Tucson, located in the historic floodplain of the Santa Cruz River.
